How to Clean Creepy Crawler Molds

Creepy Crawler Thingmaker sets have been around in one form or another since the 1960s. While the designs and manufacturers have changed since then, the same concepts are at play: "Goop" is poured into molds, which go into the Thingmaker oven to bake. When finished, plastic creatures are pulled out of the molds. Residue that's left behind can be hard to clean from the details of the molds. Vinegar and scrubbing work well for this task.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cover your work surface with paper towels or newspaper. Place a shallow pan or dish atop the paper.

    • 2

Place the used Creepy Crawler molds into the pan design-side-up. Pour enough vinegar into the pan to completely cover the molds. Allow the molds to soak for an hour.

    • 3

Remove the molds from the vinegar. Dry the molds with paper towels.

    • 4

Don the protective eyewear. Pick at the plastic "Goop" residue with your sharp plastic tool. Scrub with the bottle brush as well.

    • 5

Continue picking and scrubbing until all plastic residue has come off the mold. Use a wadded paper towel to help remove plastic from the detailed areas.

    • 6

Repeat the soaking process if some of the baked-on residue still hasn't been removed from the mold.

    • 7

Repeat the scrubbing process until all residue is out of the mold. Rinse the molds under running water and pat them dry with a rag or paper towel. Store them until future use.

    • 8

Discard the used vinegar or save it for another cleaning session. Be careful not to put any small plastic bits down the drain. Discard the used newspapers and paper towels.
