Though Calico Critters are animals, they wear work and leisure clothing like humans.   Measure your critters. Use a measuring tape or ruler and measure from the bottom of your Calico Critter to the top of its head. Adult critters stand no more than 3 inches and children measure approximately 1.9 inches.

  Examine the material. Using your index and middle finger, rub the Calico Critter's fabric. Calico Critters are plastic toys covered in soft nylon material as fur. The nylon will feel comparable to velvet, but not entirely plush. Compare the feel of the Calico Critter's clothing to a 100% Cotton tee-shirt or other article of clothing, as Calico Critter's clothing is made of Cotton.

  Note the details. Examine the box in which your Calico Critter was packaged to verify that your Critter's biography has been printed on it. Turn and move the heads and arms of your adult Calico Critters, as they are designed to be moveable toys. Inspect the details of the clothing to ensure that buttons or other minute details are intact to further verify the authenticity of your critter.
