Plastic vs. Metal
Airsoft pellets are made of plastic or other non-metallic materials. Pellets are made from lead or other metallics such as steel or copper. Airsoft pellets are also designed to have a low impact on their target unlike pellets. Pellets can be deadly depending on their caliber. Pellets may also inflict surface wounds on animals; airsoft pellets will leave a bruise or burning sensation in most instances.
Calibers &Restrictions
Airsoft pellets are limited to a 6mm pellet. Other pellets, however, come in a variety of calibers such as .20, .22, .25 and 9mm. Many states restrict the use and possession of airsoft guns and the caliber. Check local laws before buying or using an air soft gun.
Hunting &Recreational Use
In the U.S., airsoft guns and airsoft pellets are exclusively for recreational purposes since they usually do not cause much harm to their target. Thus, airsoft guns and airsoft pellets are never for hunting. However, pellet guns, particularly higher end pellet guns are sometimes used for hunting and recreational use.
