Instructions

    • 1

Put cornstarch in a container with a tight lid.

    • 2

Apply the cornstarch with a large make-up or blush brush to the area you want to take fingerprints to check for the identity of the intruder.

    • 3

Blow the dust off the surface; the cornstarch should stick to the surface.

    • 4

Use packing tape to lift the print off of the surface. Stick the tape to a smooth dark colored paper to compare prints later on.

    • 5

Set traps around areas that you do not want disturbed. Apply a small strip of cellophane tape to the bottom of a drawer or door to check for intruders.

    • 6

Check to see if the tape is broken. If it is broken you should check to see what was disturbed since someone has been in your room.

    • 7

Put a small piece of string across a door handle or on a pile of items you do not want disturbed. If it has been moved then someone as gone through your items, and you should conduct a more extensive check.
