How to Work a Tamagotchi Connection

Tamagotchi Connections, commonly called Tamas, are an electronic children's toy produced by Bandai, a Japanese electronics company. The Tamagotchi Connection, unlike previous models, has an infrared capability to communicate with other toys and play games or share items. The object of Tamagotchi Connections is to raise your own Tama creature from an egg to adulthood. You can even connect with other Tamas to have children. Since they are designed as a children's toy, Tamagotchi Connections are simple to use. Each one has only three buttons and 10 icons.

Instructions

  1. Learning to Use a Tamagotchi

Learn how to work the Tama. The design is simple: It has a small screen that displays 10 icons, five on the top and five on the bottom. To work a Tama, use the three buttons (from left to right: A, B, C) to select an icon and perform the necessary tasks to keep your Tamagotchi alive and happy. The A button scrolls through the different icons. The B button selects the icon and actions you want to perform. The C button cancels the action or exits the icon that you are currently using.

Learn what the different icons mean in order to keep your Tama healthy and happy. Starting from the top left, the icons are as follows:

      1. Stats: Displays hunger, happiness, training, and basic information. When a heart is missing from the hunger and happiness levels, use the next icon to remedy the situation.
      2. Food: Use to feed your Tama snacks when unhappy, or meals when hungry.
      3. Toilet: When your Tama has gone to the bathroom, select this to clean it up.
      4. Games: Help your Tama lose weight and gain happiness by winning.
      5. Connection: If you have friends with other Tamas, they can play together and become friends.
      6. Discipline: When your Tama is sad or seeking attention, you can praise or punish them accordingly.
      7. Health: Select this when your Tama gets a toothache or the flu.
      8. Lights: Turn out the lights when it is time for bed.
      9. Notebook: Displays your friends and previous generations.
      10. Attention: Lights up when your Tama needs something.

Play games with your Tama in order to keep it happy and healthy. In the dancing game, similar to 'Simon,' you watch the Tama and repeat the same movements. The A button represents the left, B represents up and C represents the right.
In the hurdles game, you press the B button to jump over the hurdles before running into them.

Connect your Tama with others by selecting the 'connect' icon. Have your friend do the same. Place the Tamas a few inches apart, with the infrared sensors facing one other. The screen will say 'stand by' when you have activiated the connection and then change to 'connecting' once it has been established. Now your Tamas can perform one of two actions: the 'exchange gifts' action, where your Tama will receive or give a present from the other, or the 'games' action, where your Tama will compete by either racing to see who can blow balloons faster or eat faster. Each time you connect with a friend, your friendship levels will increase.

To check your level of your friendship, go to the 'notebook' icon. Your level of friends will go from one smiley face (buddy) up to four smiley faces (best friend). When your Tama becomes an adult, the friendship level will show one heart (partner) and eventually three hearts (lover) just before two Tamas in love have a baby.

Care for your Tama over a period of a few days and watch it grow from child to adult. If you take good care of it, you can continue your Tama's family for generations.
