How to Make LEGO People Talk

Pretend play allows children to express their creativity while emulating adults and the world around them. Many toys facilitate pretend play, including Legos. Legos are building toys that also include a wide assortment of Lego people incorporated into themed playsets. You can make Lego people talk with miniature recording devices or use the childrens' voices.

Instructions

  1. Miniature Recording Devices

    • 1

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for recording the message, phrases or words the child wishes his Lego person to say, onto the miniature recording device. Two popular, very small devices are Record It Button and Scrapbook Alive! Both products record a 10-second message.

    • 2

Test your recording device and fix any phrases you want the Lego person to say.

    • 3
Scrapbook and craft stores sell miniature recording devices.

Place a self-adhesive glue dot onto the center of the back of the Lego person. Glue dots can be purchased at craft stores.

    • 4

Press the recording device onto the glue dot. The Record It Button measures 2 1/4 inches wide by 1/4-inch deep. The Scrapbook Alive! device measures 2 3/8 inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide by 3/16-inch deep. Neither is small enough to be completely hidden by the Lego person's torso.

    • 5

Press the button on the device to activate the message, making the Lego person "speak." According to Scrapjazz, "Sounds recorded on the Scrapbook Alive Voice Recorder are preserved even if the batteries are removed, but they can be recorded over if desired."

Using Your Voice or the Child's Voice

    • 6
Hold a Lego person in your hand.

Hold a Lego person in your hand, positioning the figure in the playset where desired. If you're playing with more than one Lego person, hold the other Lego person in your other hand. If someone else is holding the other Lego person, have the Lego person you are "controlling" face the other Lego person.

    • 7

Alter your voice by lowering, raising or changing your tone. Squeaky voices work well too. Fit your voice change to the Lego person being used. For example, if your Lego person is a popular TV or movie character, closely emulate the voice in the show/film. When using a Lego girl, make your voice sound feminine, sometimes exaggerating the tone for emphasis.

    • 8

Change your voice for different Lego people. Sometimes you'll have to carry on a conversation with "yourself," alternating between different Lego people. You'll have to remember which "voice" belongs to which Lego person.
