Toys to Play With in the Snow

Winter is the favorite season of many children because of the associated holidays and the time off from school, but most of all it is the possibility of snow that gets them excited. Snow provides an entirely new landscape to play on and several toys can make this winter wonderland even more fun.
  1. Sled

    • Sleds are the ultimate snowy day toys. These products have been in use for generations, helping children and adults alike zoom down the slopes and hills in their neighborhoods. Many types of sleds are available ranging from traditional wooden sleds with metal rails to plastic sleds that sit directly on the snow.
While any sled will work for sliding down a hill, parents should be sure to purchase one made of a safe material for safety purposes. The sled should be able to withstand the normal bumps of sledding on uneven surfaces to avoid breaking and accidents.
Small children can enjoy sledding, as well. However, parents or older siblings should pull the sleds along with an attached rope instead of pushing small kids down a snowy hill.

    Inflatable Fort

    • Building a snow fort is among the most popular activities during a winter, especially among young boys. When there isn't enough snow or enough time to build one, there is the option of the inflatable snow fort or snow bunker.
These products inflate much like a swimming pool float and look kind of like a tent or igloo. Some models have windows that can be opened or closed to throw snowballs out of during a snow fight and effective snowball deflectors to protect you from enemy fire during the battle.
If a store-bought snow fort isn't available, make a temporary fort out of large cardboard boxes packed on the outside. This will act as a foundation for a fort, although the wet snow will eventually take its toll.

    Beach Gear

    • Break out the beach gear in the middle of winter and enjoy the sunshine and the blow freezing temperatures. Toy buckets, shovels, rakes and other common beach toys also work well in the snow. Just as toddlers and other small children enjoy digging and scooping up sand, they also like scooping and digging up snow. Kids can spend quite a lot of time entertaining themselves with snow if they have some tools to work with.
