Tree Houses
Many children dream of sitting in a tree house, watching the world go by hidden in the branches. You can buy a tree house kit, or you can build your own tree house. Give careful thought to choosing a tree, though, and don't damage the tree in building the house.
Cedar Clubhouse
A cedar clubhouse can be a secret meeting place for children. A kit includes windows, a porch, and a pre-shingled roof, but you also can build a clubhouse from a plan you find online or at your lumber yard or home improvement store.
Firehouse
A firehouse kit features a loft inside the firehouse equipped with its own fire pole to slide down from the loft. Other features include windows, a fire bell and double doors for a large opening to the firehouse.
Tents
If you don't want to invest the money, time and space in a permanent structure, consider a play tent with a flame-retardant nylon exterior and a waterproof floor. Play tents are collapsible and come with their own storage case. You can set up multiple play tents to create more playing room for your children.
Cardboard
Cardboard makes an extremely affordable playhouse. You can buy a cardboard playhouse that assembles and breaks down for storage; many include markers to let children decorate the walls and door. You also can make a playhouse from a large box, such as an appliance box. It won't look as pretty, but your child probably won't mind.
Plastic
Plastic playhouses are perfect for a basement or patio. Plastic playhouses are constructed using a durable plastic. Working doors and windows are a common feature on most plastic playhouses. Accessories sold with the plastic playhouse allow your child's imagination to run wild.
Luxury
Your child will feel like a queen in her luxury playhouse. Luxury playhouses are sold in kits, or you can find plans at your local home improvement store. A luxury playhouse contains authentic materials as well as furnishings. If you have a shed in your back yard, you might be able to turn that into your child's luxury playhouse.
