Lead
Newer tinker toys do not contain lead based paint. However, stay away from hand-me-down toys from long ago. Some companies used lead-based paint on their toys before lead was banned.
Sharp Edges
Do not purchase plastic tinker toys with sharp edges or points. These edges can damage eyes, scratch skin or cause other harm.
Read Labels
Read tinker toy labels. These labels will tell you what age is appropriate for this toy, how to clean it and other useful information.
Broken Toys
Broken plastic tinker toys should be repaired or thrown away. Parts may be loose and can be a choking hazard.
Cleaning
Plastic tinker toys can be gently washed with warm water and soap. You can also let them soak for 10 minutes in a bucket of water with a very small amount of bleach. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
