Get-Well Gift Toys for Kids

Sick or injured children are often bombarded with balloons, cards, stuffed animals and other get-well gifts. Toys make great get-well gifts for kids because they help to alleviate the boredom associated with being stuck at home or in the hospital. Good get-well gift toys require little or no exertion on behalf of the child, provide hours of entertainment and can be played with even while resting in bed.
  1. Hand-Held Electronic Games

    • Child playing with hand-held electronic game

Hand-held electronic games make excellent get-well gifts for kids. They can keep children occupied for seemingly endless amounts of time and can easily be used while resting in bed. They're small and portable and can be brought to the doctor's office, hospital or in the car. Hand-held video-game consoles can be used to play a wide variety of games, which increases the utility of this device and helps to alleviate boredom while the child recovers.

    Card Games

    • Card games are interactive and can be taken anywhere. A regular deck of cards can be used to play a myriad of games but may not prove to be a very special gift; however, specialty card decks, which have been created specifically for a certain game, make great gifts. "Go Fish" card decks can be purchased with fish on the cards. Other traditional kid-appropriate card games, such as "Old Maid," are also sold in similar specialty decks.

    Coloring Books

    • Be sure to include coloring utensils, like these markers, with a coloring book.

Coloring books provide a creative outlet for sick children, allowing them to create pictures that can be given to family and friends or used as decoration throughout their room. Coloring books can be used almost anywhere and are easy to transport. They can keep the child occupied in bed, in the car, in waiting rooms or nearly anywhere else. Make sure to include some washable markers, crayons or other kid-friendly coloring utensils with this gift.

    Puzzles

    • Puzzle Pieces

Puzzles come in varying levels of difficulty and can provide a continuous project for the child to work on while recovering. Puzzles can be put together on a table in the room or beside the bed. Small puzzles can even be put together in bed on a bed tray, which can be easily transported to other locations.

    Board Games

    • Mancala

Board games can provide hours of entertainment and are an interactive activity that can be played with parents, siblings and visiting friends and family. If the child is well enough to sit at a table or on the floor, then almost any age-appropriate game will make a perfect gift. If the child is bed-ridden, then games that can easily be played while reclining in bed may be best. These include Battleship, Mancala, Connect Four, Categories and Trouble.
