Handheld Games for the Blind

Being blind doesn̵7;t mean that a person is incapable of playing games and having fun with toy gadgets that are on the market. There are games made especially for the blind that incorporate Braille in such entertainment as puzzles, cards and board games. The Blind can also enjoy entertainment with popular handheld games that rely on the senses of hearing and touch.
  1. Simon Trickster

    • Simon Trickster is an electronic handheld game perfect for the blind. Its function allows the player to listen to musical tones and follow the voice commands that they hear. The round disc toy has four sections called lenses. The lenses light up, flashing in different colors while making musical tones. For the blind, mimicking the sound of the tones by pressing the lenses makes this game entertaining and challenging. The player must concentrate on the game̵7;s moves that they hear. Simon Trickster challenges the player̵7;s memory as they listen to the different tones of each section and try to repeat it.

    TORX Electronic Handheld Game

    • Another game for the visually impaired that gives a challenged to the player is the TORX. This fun action game operates by twisting or bending the two handles on the game platform. A player twists or bends the handle system as he tries to follow the voice commands. This game is excellent in building dexterity and improving memory and listening skills. As the player masters the game, the TORX will automatically increase its speed, giving even more of a challenge to the player. With the TORX, you can play other games such as ̶0;Follow My Command,̶1; ̶0;Find My Shape,̶1; ̶0;TORX Says,̶1; and ̶0;Pass TORX̶1;. This handheld game is about 20 inches long when in playing mode. The playing handles folds down when not in use. If the game sits idle for a period of time it will beep automatically until the game is turned off.

    Rubix̵7;s Ball Puzzle with Braille

    • The original Rubix Cube was invented in 1974. This cubic, handheld game has three section and six sides that twist and turns in all directions. The object of the game is having the player match up smaller colored squares within the cube. This is not an easy game to conquer, not even for players with excellent sight. However, the strategic game has been improved, allowing the visually impaired to enjoy this puzzle challenge. Unlike the original Rubix Cube, the new version is round. The Rubix ball has six colored, movable circle sections. Each section has Braille number characters or dots on them. This makes this game unique for those who are blind. The challenge is to move the sections of the ball around so that the colored circles and Braille numbers match. A completed game will have solid color sections with a corresponding Braille number. By feeling the Braille number, a player will know if she beat the challenge or not.
