How to Play a BioByte Toy

BioBytes is a children's hand-held video game that allows the user to pit vicious animals against each other in a fight to the death. The unique thing about this game is that to play it, you must buy the hand-held device and the individual animals that you would like to fight separately--the animals are actual toys that come in their own water-filled encasing, and when connected to the game device, they flail about as you fight with them. It's an interesting idea for a toy, and one that is easy to play.

Things You'll Need

  • BioBytes game device
  • BioBytes Animal Expansion Tank (the animal that you want to fight with)

Instructions

    • 1

Open and install batteries into your BioBytes game device if necessary. Upon opening the package, batteries are installed, but should be checked for functionality.

    • 2

Open your BioBytes animal tank that you want to battle with. When buying the game device, the package includes one animal already; however, the animal tanks are interchangable, and if you desire a new animal to fight with, you will have to buy an expansion tank and place it in the cartridge. To do so, make sure the device is off by pressing the power button, and lifting the cartridge/tank vertically upward. Replace with the cartridge/tank of the animal that you wish to fight with by sliding the prongs underneath the tank into the game device.

    • 3

Turn the device on and wait through the loading screen and opening animation for the main menu to appear.

    • 4

Choose the mode of play that you wish to use: Direct Control, Quick Battle, Tournament or Head to Head mode. Direct control is simply a way of pushing buttons and seeing your plastic animal in its Bio-Tank move around. It is an interesting feature but doesn't allow you to fight other creatures. A quick battle is a simple practice fight (much like Head to Head mode--head to head, however, offers experience points that accumulate for your animal and is useful in tournament mode). Choose the mode of play by pressing the directional joystick on the Game Controller/Device to the left or right. The icons at the top (a circle with arrows around it for Direct Control; a lightning mark for a quick battle; a trophy for tournament; and VS for head to head) will be highlighted. Click on the button marked "A" when you have highlighted the mode you want.

    • 5

Choose Head to Head mode, as this will offer you chances to build up your animal's experience points for later, when you wish to try out tournament mode, a mode in which you can fight all the other animals with increasing difficulty, until you reach the main boss--the Bernazoid.

    • 6

Wait for the opening animation to finish, and once the battle begins, there are choices you must make. BioBytes is a turn-based game where you attack, and then the opposing animal attacks. The choices you make concern which part of your body you wish to attack with, and which part of your opponent's body you want to attack. Use the directional joystick to highlight an icon at the bottom that you wish to use (the claw is attack; the shield is block; the "i" is for information; and the bar graph is statistics). Select the claw to attack, and press the "A" button on the game controller.

    • 7

Use the directional joystick on the game controller to choose which part of your body you wish to attack with, and press "A."

    • 8

Choose which part of your opponent's body you want to attack, and press "A" again. This will finish your turn, and treat you to a small clip of animation that shows you attacking your opponent. After this, you must wait for the opponent to attack you. Each attack will take points off of your total, and the first animal to reach zero loses.

    • 9

Select the shield option occasionally as well, as this will deflect your opponent's attack and cause considerably less damage to you. Unfortunately, you can't hit this all the time, as it will still allow depletion of your points, and you do not get to attack with your animal on the same turn.
