How to Make Creepy Crawlers

Originally released by Mattel toys in 1964, the ̶0;Creepy Crawlers̶1; toy set was the first in the manufacturer̵7;s line of ̶0;thingmakers̶1;. These toys were meant to make kids into young do-it-yourself experts, allowing them to essentially make their own toys. The ̶0;Creepy Crawlers̶1; toy set allows users to make worms, scorpions, slugs and other insects that can make the skin crawl. Kids can choose the colors and patterns for their bugs, and in just a few minutes these creatures are ready to creep out your sister, parents, friends or anyone else you come in contact with.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a ̶0;Creepy Crawlers̶1; toy set, which comes with an oven, spatula, molds, goop and tongs.

    • 2

Remove the top of the oven and screw in your light bulb. Use at most a 25-watt light bulb, as a higher wattage can burn the oven. Plug in the oven.

    • 3

Replace the top of the oven. Open a bottle of goop; your toy set will include a number of colors.

    • 4

Squeeze goop into the mold to form the colors and patterns of your bugs.

    • 5

Place the mold on the spatula and use the tongs to slide it into the oven. Remove the tongs and close the oven door. Turn the light switch on so that the bug will begin to bake.

    • 6

Turn the light off after seven minutes and wait while the oven cools. Remove the mold with your tongs and check the consistency of your bug. Depending on the wattage of your light bulb, your bug may need to cook for another two to three minutes before it is solid.

    • 7

Gently pry the bug̵7;s limbs away from the mold with a sewing needle or toothpick. Pull the bug completely from the mold.
