How to Build Your Own LEGO Man

Whether it is Star Wars, Pirates, Agents or Space Police, the "minifigures" or "minifigs" are often the most popular part of a Lego set. They are fun because all of their limbs move and removable weapons attach to their hands easily. Most sets come with hundreds of building pieces but only a few figurines. The minifigs are not sold separately and can be quite expensive when you do find a seller. Individual figures often exceed $10 and certain characters can be auctioned off for three times that amount, according to recent listings on eBay (see Reference 1). Instead of buying yet another complete set to satisfy for child's insatiable appetite for more guys, challenge them to make their own character using pieces from different sets.

Things You'll Need

  • Minifigs from two different Lego sets (mix two different genres: Star Wars, Pirates, Agents, Space Police, Batman or Indiana Jones)
  • Lego pieces to create a unique vehicle, base or weapon

Instructions

  1. Pieces of your imagination

    • 1

Disassemble all of the figurines in the Lego sets. Make separate piles for heads, torso/leg/arm pieces, hands (detachable in some), weapons and helmets/capes.

    • 2

Envision a character that you have not already seen in a movie, cartoon or comic book--a Star Wars clone trooper's helmet on a space creature's body and holding a curved pirate sword, for example. How about a robot with a human-looking head?

    • 3

Build the character using the available parts. Apply the same concept for building a vehicle. A surfboard that flies through space is one example, or a pirate ship with wings. An evil robot's castle with a heliport is another unique created not seen in Lego sets.
