How to Make Toy Storage

The key to effective toy storage is to make the toys accessible, yet enough out of the way so that no one will trip on them. This means a container that kids are able to open on their own, at ground level, and in a room where the toys are frequently played with. Wood, plastic and heavy cardboard are appropriate materials for storage containers - they are safe, attractive and functional.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the container with your child's help. If the child feels involved, he or she may be more likely to place toys into the storage container on a regular basis.

    • 2

Tell your child, "This is where the toys sleep when you are not using them," once the container has been selected. Have he or she practice placing the toys into the container until it becomes a habit.

    • 3

Place the container in the section of the room where it is stored, once the toys are put away. If the container is a stationary one, you are already finished. Your floor will once again be toy-free.
