Homemade Tech Deck Ramps

Making homemade Tech Deck ramps for skateboards is easy to do with materials you already have at home. This fun activity allows you to use your imagination, and do something creative and cheap. With just a few cardboard boxes and tape you will be on your way to constructing an entire mini skatepark.
  1. Boxes

    • Almost any cardboard box can be easily turned into a Tech Deck ramp with a sharp pair of scissors. Cereal boxes are especially easy to convert into four sided pyramid style ramps because of their size and flexibility. Cut off the top of an empty cereal box and continue cutting two thirds of the way down the four sides of the box. Use the creases of the cardboard to guide your scissors down. Then, turn the box upside down and place it on your smooth skating surface. Allow the four panels of the box to spread in separate directions as the bottom panel is pushed towards the floor. Evaluate the current height of the ramp and cut farther down the sides of the box if you want it to go lower.

    Tape

    • Tape is needed to secure the ramp and add stability. Use a strong packaging tape or duct tape to reinforce and areas of your ramp that are flimsy. Double up the tape coverage on inclines so they won't bend and crease when used. Add a rail your ramp by cutting a piece of tape to the length of the ramps top lip. Next make a crease in the tape lengthwise leaving some exposed adhesive edge on either side of the tape. Now line up this creased piece of tape along the top edge of the ramp and pressed it on to secure your rail into place. This raised lip at the top of your ramp will make it easier for you to perform tricks like railslides and handplants on your Tech Deck.

    Decorate

    • Personalize your ramps with spray paint, stickers and mini graffiti. Apply thin layers of gray or beige spray paint when ramps are finished being built and you want to give them that realistic concrete or plywood look. Most Tech Deck packs come with stickers from different skateboard companies. Place these stickers all over your ramps to give them that authentic sponsored skatepark look. Use permanent markers to draw little graffiti messages. This is a good opportunity to come up with a name for your pretend skaters or their group. You can skate on your friend's homemade Tech Deck ramps and mark your skate groups mini tag. Allow them to do the same to yours for an urban feel. Arrange your ramps and your friends into different skatepark configurations to design smoothly flowing runs.
