Things You'll Need
Instructions
Make a noisemaker by adding marbles or pebbles to a plastic bottle. Choose a soda, ketchup or other plastic bottle. Wash the bottle and lid and allow to dry. Insert beans, pebbles or marbles into the bottle. Hot glue the lid back onto the bottle. As the toddler plays with the noise maker, check for cracks or breaks in the plastic. Discard when the bottle starts to show signs of wear or damage.
Laminate photos of family, friends and pets. Make sure there are duplicates of the pictures. These cards can then be used for a fun and familiar game of match. As with any plastic or paper product, watch for signs of wear and tear.
Color or paint an appliance box to resemble a castle. Use pastels for girls and bold colors for boys. The kids can pretend to be the prince and princess of the stronghold. Decorate with large, fluffy pillows and other soft objects.
Put lids on plastic food containers and plastic coffee cans. These objects can become drums or other great learning toys. The 2-year-old child can beat on the containers. The containers can be used to store blocks or other smaller toys. They can even be used to play a game of seek and find. Hide a card in one and let the child guess which container holds the card.
Create a dress-up box from last season's wardrobe. Hats and accessories are great toys for toddlers. Kids use their imagination to become many different people. A 2-year-old loves to imitate his or her parents. Whether going to work, working out or just talking on the phone, a child will mimic anything he sees. A dress-up box can be kept in the hall closet to be brought out on rainy days.
