How to Make Spy Gadgets for Kids

Secrets can be hidden in locked safes or vaults, but it's better to hide objects in plain sight. A book safe is the perfect solution for any spy and is free to make. Supply an old hardcover book that you no longer use, along with simple supplies that can be found in any home. This quick and easy project creates a secret hiding place that will fool crooks and other spies. They'll have no clue that this ordinary book conceals secrets.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hardcover book several pages from the beginning, and cut the pages on the right. Set other books underneath the side you are cutting to create a flat work surface.

    • 2

Use the ruler and pencil to draw a rectangle on the top right hand page. Use the type on the page to guide you; this eliminates the need to measure, makes cutting pages easier, and allows for a more uniform size.

    • 3

Using the ruler as a guide, cut out the rectangle with a hobby knife or box cutter. Press down firmly and cut smoothly and steadily, slicing through multiple pages at once. Remove and discard the rectangles.

    • 4

Continue cutting rectangles out of pages, leaving several pages at the end of the book uncut.

    • 5

Have your young Bond hide secrets in the book safe. Place on a populated bookshelf, where crooks would never think to look for a secret safe.
