How to Customize a My Little Pony

Customizing a My Little Pony has become increasingly popular and it gives new life to a toy that may have seen better days. By customizing your pony, you can make it your own, reflecting your own interests and favorite colors. Grab some paint and accessories and create your own My Little Pony.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a My Little Pony that has a few flaws and is not a rare pony. Look for one with cuts, missing hair, stains or holes. You'll want to make sure that the pony is a common one as rare ponies should be left alone. The pony you select for the customizing is called a bait pony.

    • 2

Decide how you want to customize your My Little Pony. If you just want to add a new emblem or create clothes for your pony, you won't need to take the pony apart. More extensive customizations often mean that you'll need to get inside a My Little Pony.

    • 3

Take the head off the pony if you want to replace the hair or switch out a body part. If the glue on the head isn't loose, you'll need to carefully cut through the glue. Be sure not to cut the pony herself when you do this. Once you have the head off, you can take the mane or tail hair out.

    • 4

Clean your pony inside and out. Use fingernail polish to remove any marks on the pony. You may also want to remove any excess glue. If you plan to dye your pony, use only fingernail polish as other cleansers can repel the dye.

    • 5

Paint or dye your pony if you want to change her color. Although dying is more difficult, the results often look more authentic. Dye can take 1 to 2 months to fully soak in, so be sure to follow directions and give your pony time to absorb the color.

    • 6

Put in new hair if you took it out earlier in the process. Re-rooting the hair can be time consuming, but it is fairly easy to find new hair from other ponies, doll hair, or from knockoff ponies. Knot the hair twice in the middle and draw it through the mane holes with a needle. To replace the tail, you'll want to attach the washer or clasp to keep it in place.

    • 7

Add special effects like special emblems, clothing and facial changes. You can change the pony's eyes with glass paint, and you can add rosy cheeks with water-based paint. Fine glitters work best for creating new emblems. Look at what others are doing to customize their My Little Pony for ideas (see Resources below).
