How to Build a LEGO Domino Stacker

A domino stacker is essentially a small car that will stack dominoes automatically for you. You can build your own domino stacker out of LEGOs, using a small LEGO motor and gears to drive the device forward, and a set of gears to have the motor also push a stack of dominoes forward as the whole vehicle moves forward. As long as you set up your stacker to push dominoes out slowly, you can build your stacker to look almost any way you like.

Things You'll Need

  • Assorted LEGOs, including some roof tiles
  • LEGO motor
  • Pulley
  • 8-tooth gear
  • 2 40-tooth gears
  • 24-tooth gear
  • 8 tooth pinion
  • Dominoes

Instructions

    • 1

Build a magazine to dispense dominoes out of. You'll want the bottom of the magazine to be open, so that dominoes are dragged across the round, and the sides to be close enough together that your dominoes remain upright and don't tilt to either side.

    • 2

Set up your gears so that the motor drives a pulley, that then drives the 8-tooth gear on the other end of a shaft.

    • 3

Make the 8-tooth gear drive the 40-tooth main gear that has a connecting rod mounted to it. The 40-tooth gear will also drive a 24-tooth gear on the same shaft, which drives a 24-tooth crown gear. That 24-tooth crown gear drives an 8-tooth pinion which connects with a 40-tooth gear on the main axle with the wheels for the device on it.

    • 4

Have the connecting rod slide into the magazine you created for your dominoes, pushing the dominoes forward to release them.

    • 5

Build up the domino stacker with other LEGOs to give it a unique look as well as some stability.
