How to Build the Erector 1 Motorcycle Set

The enjoyment in the act of building Erector sets has been a major part of their play value since the first sets were unveiled by the inventor A.C. Gilbert at the New York Toy Fair in 1913. All instructions are picture-based, including those for the Erector 1 Motorcycle set, also known as the "Motorbike" in the "Design" sets category. These instructions, combined with patience and attention-to-detail, will help you build your motorbike model.

  1. Instructions Included

    • 1

Clear a large working space. Avoid carpeted floors and opt for hardwood, tiled or linoleum floors so you can stand parts up, if needed. A large table is also appropriate, but be careful not to lose pieces by dropping them off the side.

    • 2

Place the building directions in clear view of the building area. Ideally, affix them onto a wall or piece of furniture so you can easily and quickly refer to the directions as you work.

    • 3

Lay out all of the pieces in the set. Compare the parts you have to the parts listed in the instructions. Avoid frustration by making sure you have received all necessary parts before beginning to build.

    • 4

Follow the directions in order. Jumping around can result in incorrect placement of parts, and can potentially damage the set.

    • 5

During building breaks, return the pieces and instructions to the original packaging to avoid losing any parts. Optionally, place parts in a sealed container if the packaging is damaged or missing.
