How to Make Acrylic Decals for Legos

Legos are children's building toys, comprised of small plastic bricks that lock together. They encourage creativity and cooperative play and are available in a multitude of shapes and sizes. Although Legos are geared toward children, there is a community of older enthusiasts as well who enjoy modifying Lego pieces to create custom builds. "Modders" use acrylic decals to add tiny details to Lego bricks and figures.

Instructions

    • 1

Design your decal in the photo editing software of your choice. Decal templates are available online if you need a good starting point. Remember that simpler shapes and designs look cleaner and clearer, so avoid adding too many tiny details.

    • 2

Print your decal designs on plain paper to check for size and color matching. If you're satisfied with the design, print the decals on the waterslide decal film, following the manufacturer's instructions for best results. Let the printer ink dry completely before handling the decals.

    • 3

Cut out your decals and follow the manufacturer's application instructions. Once the decals are in place, bring the figure to a well-ventilated area. Spray with 2 to 3 coats of clear acrylic spray paint to set and protect the decals.
