Building a Tilted Twister
Download the building instructions. Like all LEGO projects, this one has an associated set of building instructions that uses numbers and pictures to direct users toward the final product. These instructions have been provided by Hans Andersson and are available on his website, TiltedTwister.com.
Open your LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 set and dump out all the pieces. Separate the small pieces from the larger building components, such as the sensors and the programmable controller.
Separate the smaller pieces into groups to make it easier to find particular pieces when they are called for. Most users prefer to separate them by color. Some prefer to separate them by size.
Take your instructions and go to page one. Like all LEGO instructions, the Tilter Twister building instructions take users through the building process step by step. Each page shows users how to build a small part of the overall project. Begin by finding all the pieces indicated in the top-left corner of the page.
Build the robot beginning in the center, or core, of the robot and move outward. First build the main body, then add the ultrasonic camera (which allows the robot to see how far away the Rubik's cube is), and then add the wheels. You then attach the NXT Intelligent Brick, which is used to program the robot, and the gears that allow the robot to move the sensor and the Rubik's cube. The final components built are the holder for the Rubik's cube, the arm that rotates the Rubik's cube and the color-sensing camera.
Continue following the instructions in sequence, beginning at 1 and ascending the numbers until the final step is completed. Be sure to keep track of all the pieces as you build. Losing a piece could mean the end of your project.
Download the tiltedtwister.zip file from the Tilted Twister web site. Using the LEGO Mindstorms software, download the files to the brick programming device.
