How do I Make a Mini Lego Robot Suit?

LEGO mini figures come in all kinds of varieties: pirates, cowboys and even robots. However, if you don't have a robot included in your set, it's very easy to transform an existing mini figure into a robot. The plan works with almost any mini figure. If you have a figure with a removable vest or top, (usually made of a more pliable plastic) you have the option to keep your robot suit separate without permanently changing the figure. If not, choose a character you don't mind altering or look for legs and arms that work for your robot idea.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect parts for your robot. Remove hair and beard from the head if necessary, then build your mini figure.

    • 2

Pour a quarter-sized dollop of gray or silver paint carefully onto the paper plate. Use a clean paintbrush to stir away any separation, then gently dab paint onto your mini figure. You may want to use the other side of the paper plate as a work surface to avoid getting paint on the floor or furniture. Using small strokes, paint the entire front of your mini figure silver.

    • 3

Let the paint dry completely, following the instructions on the paint bottle, or wait up to ten minutes. Then flip it over and paint the back. Once it is completely dry, you can hold the mini figure and use a small brush to finish the sides, insides of the hands and the joints. Bend the knees back and forth to make sure you didn't miss a spot.

Embellish your robot with a fine-tipped marker. Add eyes and a straight line for a mouth on the face. Then, using small circles, create dials and meters on the front of the torso. Tiny dots around the edges of the torso, arms and legs can be bolts and screws.

Collect extra materials. Once you've drawn some markings on your robot, add accessories. If you have googly eyes or toothpicks, paint them and glue them on as colored buttons or antennas. Even small pieces from other toys can serve as a mechanical apparatus; a piece of a small tube or slinky can decorate the back of your new robot.
