How to Make a Model Log Cabin for Kids

Twigs can stand in for full-size logs on a log cabin model worthy of the most self-resilient pioneers. Search for straight twigs with a uniform diameter the size of a pencil. Kids over the age of 8 can use a hot glue gun after learning basic safety tips, and younger children will need the assistance of an adult. Begin with a blueprint that follows the basic lines of a design drawing by the child. Once the model cabin is finished, use smaller twigs to make log furniture.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a log cabin on the computer paper with crayons. Use the drawing to determine measurements for the cabin model walls and roof, including doors and windows.

    • 2

Measure and cut the cardboard from the box to the measurements of the model log cabin design. Cut out the windows and doors.

    • 3

Cut the twigs to cover each wall of the log cabin, trimming them to fit around the doors and windows.

    • 4

Glue the twigs to the cardboard with the hot glue gun.

    • 5

Glue the walls together with the hot glue gun to form the house.

    • 6

Cut out the roof from the cardboard, and color it brown with the crayons. Glue the roof to the house with the hot glue gun.
