How to Build a Building Out of Legos

Legos come in several shapes, colors and sizes of bricks. They are used to construct buildings, vehicles, characters and more. Almost anything can be built with Legos. There are many Lego kits available for various age groups and skill levels. With several Legos and a little planning, you can construct any size building. Instructions

    • 1

Draw out a design for your building with a pencil on paper. Consider the type building you are making and how large you want it to be. Also consider windows and doors. This will give you an idea of how many and what size of Lego bricks you will need.

    • 2

Place rectangular or square Lego bricks around the Lego baseplate. The board provides a setting for your building -- a green baseplate can be grass or a lawn -- while holding your design in place. Make a complete round of Legos on the board as the shape of your building.

    • 3

Remove a Lego brick where you want your door to be. Lego has plastic doors that snap into place with the blocks. Place a door onto one of the pegs of the baseplate.

    • 4

Build a second layer of Lego bricks around your first layer. They can be even with the first layer or you can taper them by snapping the Legos on top of one half of the foundation bricks. Continue building rows around, creating more height to your building.

    • 5

Leave a gap in the walls to allow for windows. Lego makes window pieces that you can snap into the gaps. You can also leave them open and build around the gap.

    • 6

Add a roof to your building. You can create a roof with individual Lego blocks or use specific Lego roof pieces that snap onto your building. Taper your rectangle blocks inward toward the middle of your building. Snap each of the bricks onto half of the previous block until they meet in the middle. Use a flat Lego strip to connect the touching blocks at the top of the roof to secure it together.
