How to Build a LEGO Red Dwarf Ice Cream Stand

The popular Lego Space Police series, created by Lego and distributed on the LegoClub YouTube channel, features many unique buildings and vehicles. In episode 05, the space police do their duties at the Red Dwarf Ice Cream Stand, run by a suspicious green alien. Although the Lego Space Police line of toys does not offer a construction set for building this stand, with a little creativity and patience, you can construct the stand from your own Lego bricks.

Things You'll Need

  • Black or gray base
  • Red, white and gray bricks
  • Windows
  • Single-circle cylindrical pieces
  • Red roof pieces
  • Flat black base piece
  • Decorative pieces, as desired

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the base of the ice cream stand. Your stand should be about 16 circles long by eight circles wide and gray or black. You can use a flat base piece or a standard-brick thickness base. If you do not have a single piece this size, place several smaller pieces next to one another to form the base.

    • 2

Construct the lower walls of the ice cream stand. This section should be about two standard bricks tall and made of red, gray and white bricks. For a truly authentic look, make the bottom layer red and the upper layer white on the front, both layers red on the sides, the bottom layer gray and the top layer white on the back. The walls should extend to the sides of the base, but leave a line of circles open at the front and back. If you have bricks with a grill face, these lend a nice, finished look to the stand. You can also use decorative pieces in the center six circles of the front wall, where the counter will sit. Leave a circle open at each of the front corners for the corner pieces.

    • 3

Add the windows. On the front, place two triple-paned windows, one on each side. Leave a space about six circles wide for the counter. On each of the sides, use a single-paned window (extending to the same height). For the back of the ice cream stand, use three triple-paned windows, surrounding the center window with single-circle red and white standard bricks.

    • 4

Build the counter. Use white bricks extending outward from the space between the two front windows. If you have a green alien mini-figure, place him behind the counter to serve the customers.

    • 5

Add the corners. For the front corners, use single-circle cylindrical pieces, building each corner up to the tops of the windows. Chrome or metallic cylinders look particularly nice. For the back corners, use standard bricks, extending one circle back beyond the back wall. If you plan to attach piping on the sides, make sure one of your white bricks has a hook extension to hold the piping in place.

    • 6

Add details, as desired. Add piping to the top and back of the sides to simulate gutters or cooling vents. Add see-through red pieces at the front corners to represent lights. You can also build up coolers, counter tops, dispensers and storage inside the stand, if you wish.

    • 7

Add the roof supports. Across the sides, place flat base-style red pieces. Across the back, place standard-thickness red pieces.

    • 8

Construct the roof. Use red slanted roof pieces. Make the roof two layers, if possible. If you have red roof pieces with decorations, particularly industrial or space-themed, place these at intervals around the roof. Top the roof pieces with a rectangular, flat black or gray base piece, about 16-by-six circles.

    • 9

Add roof decorations. Be creative here. If you have a vent-like decorative piece, use this. Use gray and white bricks to construct an exhaust pipe. Build an oversized ice cream cone or, if you own Lego set 7888 (The Tumbler: Joker's Ice Cream Surprise), use the cone from the Joker's ice cream truck.
