How to Build a LEGO Roundup Carnival Ride

There are thousands of specialized LEGO pieces, which makes it possible to make nearly anything you want, including a roundup ride. The roundup ride is a carnival ride that is shaped like a wheel and spins on an axis. This LEGO project works well as a part of a theme park with other rides or in a town scenario. Expect the project to take about 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • 6 hinged plates, 2-by-2
  • 6 seats
  • Two plates, 2-by-3
  • 4 two-studded bricks, 1-by-1
  • 6-by-6 round plate
  • 2-by-2 upright-axis brick
  • 2-by-1 one-holed brick
  • 5 bricks, 2-by-1

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a 2-by-2 hinged plate to another 2-by-2 hinged plate. The hinged plate looks like a two squares connected by little teeth upon which the plates can hinge.

    • 2

Connect another hinge plate to the two hinged plates you just connected. Continue adding hinged plates until you have a string of six connected. This forms the outer rim of the roundup ride wheel. Add more hinged plates if you want a bigger roundup ride.

    • 3

Connect a seat to the top of each hinge plate.

    • 4

Connect the first hinge plate and the last together to form a loop with your hinge plates.

    • 5

Connect a 2-by-3 plate to the bottom of one of the hinged plates. Repeat this step for the hinged plate on the opposite side of the wheel.

    • 6

Connect a pair of two-studded bricks to the two visible studs of each 2-by-3 plate you attached in step five. The two-studded brick has one stud on top and another stud facing horizontally.

    • 7

Connect a 6-by-6 round plate to the horizontal studs of the two-studded bricks you attached in step six. This round plate covers one open side of the wheel.

    • 8

Connect a 2-by-2 upright-axis brick to the center of the round plate. The upright axis brick looks like a regular brick but with an axis rod sticking straight up out of the center of the top.

    • 9

Connect a 2-by-1 one-holed brick to the axis rod of the upright-axis brick. This creates the free-spinning axis upon which the wheel rotates.

    • 10

Connect a 2-by-1 brick to the bottom or top of the 2-by-1 one-holed brick. Continue adding 2-by-1 bricks to each other to create a growing stack until you have five total. Connect a 2-by-1 angle-hinged brick to the end of this stack. The angle-hinged brick looks like a regular brick, but the studs and depressions are connected by a snap-rod so the studs can hinge to different angles.

    • 11

Connect the bottom of the angle-hinge brick to a base plate. Place your LEGO people in the seats of the roundup ride. Lay the angle-hinged brick down so the wheel lays against the base plate. Lift the angle-hinge brick up so the wheel rises into the air. Spin the wheel to start the roundup ride.
