How to Make a LEGO Plate Rotate

There are thousands of LEGO pieces, most of which have a stud on one side and a corresponding depression on the other, an arrangement that lets pieces snap together to make nearly anything you want. A LEGO plate is one such piece - it's thinner than a brick and has studs on top and depressions on the bottom. LEGO plates can't rotate on their own, but with additional LEGOs you can make them spin until your heart's content. This technique is useful for making spinning propeller blades of a helicopter, or a rotating gun nest on a fortress.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a 2-by-2 jumper tile to a plate of any size. Unlike plates, jumper tiles have one stud on top that spans over multiple depressions on their bottom.

    • 2

Cover the plate with smooth tiles around the jumper tile. This is to help the rotating plate, rotate.

    • 3

Snap the bottom of the plate you want to rotate to the one stud on the jumper tile. Push the plate in a circular motion with your fingers to make it rotate. This is because it is connected by only one stud. If there are any more, it won't rotate.
