How to Build the LEGO Motor Boat

The Lego City line of toys, unlike many Lego building sets, is targeted to younger children, beginning at age five. The Lego City "Speed Boat" set (Lego's motorboat toy), with only 34 easy-to-assemble pieces, is particularly well-suited to this age range. In a short time, even the youngest Lego enthusiast can have his own Lego motorboat.

Instructions

    • 1

Assemble the driver. Attach the blue-jacketed torso section to the blue legs. Then, before attaching the yellow head, slip on your driver's yellow life jacket. Then snap on the yellow head piece and top it with his blue cap.

    • 2

Assemble the boat's base. Line up the white piece with a four-by-four depressed area edged with two raised one-by-four sides next to the white piece with a one-by-four depressed area and two raised one-circle sides. Connect these two pieces by attaching along each side of the depressed areas a flat red one-by-six piece, with one circle extending beyond the larger white piece.

    • 3

Attach the base of the front end. On top of the flat red pieces' extended circles, place a one-by-four black brick. Between the back ends of the two flat red pieces, place a two-by-two flat red piece. Underneath the black piece, and flush with the existing white pieces, attach the white front piece (with a three-by-four depression at the rear and a large curved front). Atop this piece, place the matching red piece, creating a hollow center.

    • 4

Complete the seating area. Over the back circle of each flat red one-by-six piece, place a white one-circle triangular piece, with the slanted side facing the back. Over the front two circles of the flat red two-by-two piece, place the black seat back. Over the front two available circles of the white depressed area, place the steering wheel. On top of each of the raised white sides, place a long red topper-piece with two circles on the front of the top.

    • 5

Build the motor area. In between the two white triangles, place the two-by-one white brick with the motor bar at the back.

    • 6

Add bottom pieces. On the bottom of the boat, at the bottom and at the center seam, place the flat black circle pieces.

    • 7

Add detail pieces. To the depressed section at the front end of the boat (on the red top), attach the two red grill pieces. On top of this red piece, and two rows from the front, attach the flat white piece with a four-by-four main section, and two arms extending toward the rear. Between these two arms, place the white grill piece. Directly behind this piece, attach the clear windshield piece.

    • 8

Build the motor. Build up the black center section of the motor, then attach the grill pieces to the sides. Then snap the assembled motor onto the back of the boat.
