How to Mod a Minifig

Lego Minifigures, often called Minifigs, are the small human or humanoid figures that are included in sets of Lego building bricks. With their unusual yellow skin and curved gripping hands, minifigs are an iconic part of the Lego universe. A community of people who customize minifigs, called modders, has sprung up, creating everything from pop culture icons to their own unique characters.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a design for your minifig. You could create your favorite superhero, television or movie star, book character, or make your own design. Identify the key elements of the character's look, including hair and eye color, outfit, and expression.

    • 2

Download the minifigure part templates and open them with your photo editing software. Design your decals for the figure, incorporating key elements in the character's costume. Do a test print of your decals on regular paper to check the colors and line width.

    • 3

Print your decals on the waterslide decal paper. Let dry completely, being careful not to touch the decals, and spray a few times with the clear spray paint to set. Apply to the figure, following the instructions on the decal sheet.

    • 4

Paint the figure as desired, including the hair and any other small details. Spray the figure with clear paint to set the paint and decals. Let dry completely.

    • 5

Treat any fabric you plan to use by dipping it into the acrylic matte medium; this prevents fraying and adds some strength. You can paint the treated fabric, and it will hold a crease. Attach the fabric elements with superglue, letting it dry completely before moving.
