How to Build a LEGO Yoshi

As of June 2011, there are no official LEGO Super Mario Figures, but using a collection of generic LEGO pieces, builders can create several characters of "Super Mario" including the green lizard Yoshi. The character uses very specific LEGO pieces and once built, Yoshi can carry any LEGO minifigure and is compatible with multiple LEGO play sets. The regular Yoshi is green, but the same instructions may be used to build multiple colored Yoshi creatures like blue, red and pink Yoshi.

Things You'll Need

5 green 2-by-1 nub LEGO pieces
4 red single nub LEGO pieces
1 single nub green hinge LEGO piece
1 single nub green LEGO piece
Gray four port nub LEGO piece
LEGO minifigure head connector
2 white saucer LEGO pieces
Green LEGO minifigure helmet
Green five-sided slope LEGO piece
2 double nub curved White LEGO pieces
White single nub open connection port
White flat 2-by-1 connector LEGO piece
Black car expansion LEGO piece
2 green LEGO arms
2 gray cylinder LEGO pipe pieces
2 red LEGO sphere pieces
White LEGO minifigure head

Instructions

- 1
  Connect a green 2-by-1 nub flat piece to another green 2-by-1 nub piece. Leave it so one nub hangs off of each piece. Add three red circular nub pieces to the exposed nubs on the pieces. This creates the edge of Yoshi's head.

  Connect a one nub green hinge piece to the final open spot on the other green piece. Leave the hinge hanging out.

  Take a gray four port nub piece. Connect a single head connector to the top and dual white saucer pieces to the left and right sides. Add a single nub green piece to the front side.

  Connect the green and red back piece to the back side of the gray connector. Add a white minifigure head to the top of the gray piece. Slide a green LEGO minifigure helmet onto the head. Connect a green five-sided slope piece to the front. This creates Yoshi's large snout and his full profile should be visible now.

  Use all white pieces to build Yoshi's neck. The middle of the neck features a curved white piece with two nubs on the end. Add a single nub open connection port to the end of the neck. Apply a no-nub piece to the top to connect the neck.

  Connect a black car expansion piece to the back of the neck. Add two green arms to the extended edges. Attach the head to the top of this.

  Use gray cylinder pieces to create the legs. Add a 2-by-1 green piece for the feet. Use a red sphere piece on the edge of each foot to complete the lower body.

  Finish the LEGO Yoshi with the tail. Connect a curved white piece to three 2-by-1 flat green pieces and apply a single red nub to the top. Connect the tail to the top of the feet and then add the rest of the body.

  Stand the LEGO Yoshi up and adjust the feet to make it balance.
