How to Build a Lego Pumpkin

If it's Halloween and you don't have a pumpkin, don't fret. If you are a Lego enthusiast, build your own, non-perishable pumpkin from scratch. Building a Lego pumpkin requires only two things: persistence and a sufficient number of orange Legos. The advantage of building a Lego pumpkin is that it affords builders complete creative freedom. The pumpkin can be small or large, it can be hollow or solid, it can be a jack-o'-lantern or it can be all-natural. In a matter of an hour, you can call into existence any kind of pumpkin you fancy.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pumpkin Lego set. There are several kinds of pumpkin Lego sets to choose from, and any one of them works as long as the set comes with enough orange Legos to complete your pumpkin. If you cannot find a suitable Lego set, simply amass as many orange Legos as possible.

    • 2

Align Legos so that you assemble a 4-Lego-by-4-Lego base. Build a 5-Lego-by-5 Lego layer on top of it. Increase the dimensions of each subsequent layer by one Lego --- from 5-by-5 to 6-by-6 and increasingly larger. Continue to widen each additional layer until you have stacked seven layers on top of one another.

    • 3

Stack five layers with equal dimensions (at this point your layers should be 10-Legos-by-10-Legos) on top of one another. This creates the central bulk of the pumpkin.

    • 4

Build the top half of the pumpkin by stacking layers that taper towards the top of the pumpkin in the same fashion that the bottom half's layers taper towards the bottom.

    • 5

Turn your pumpkin into a jack-o'-lantern by leaving out Legos in certain areas. To create triangular jack-o'-lantern eyes, locate the spaces where you wish the eyes to be and make sure to leave out three Legos for each eye. Leave out two Legos at the base of the eye; leave out one at the peak.

    • 6

Make your jack-o'-lantern hollow like Halloween jack-o'-lanterns if you wish. Split the Lego pumpkin in half along its horizontal axis. Pull out enough Legos in the pumpkin's interior to create a cavern that you can peer into through the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin. Then re-attach the two halves of the Lego pumpkin. Be sure only to remove Legos in the pumpkin's interior so as not to create unwanted openings in its exterior.

Add additional realism by placing a column of green Legos on top to resemble a stalk.
