Make-Believe Baked Goods
The manufacturers supply suitable molds to make Moon Sand eggs and other ingredients, as well as completed baked goods. One advertised feature of the Bake Shop is a working blender into which children can place yellow sticks of "butter," white "eggs" and "flour," along with other ingredients; when the blender is operated, the different colors of Moon Sand are mixed into a new shade.
Shakes and Sundaes
Moon Sand can be molded into milkshakes and ice cream sundaes. Shape appropriately-colored sand in an ice-cream mold and place it in a plastic ice-cream cone. You can also mold fruits such as bananas, then use them in the make-believe ice creams. Different shades of sand can be blended together as part of the pretend play, then transferred into plastic sundae glasses and decorated with plastic fruit or garnishes molded from Moon Sand.
Bricks and Brick Walls
Construction-themed Moon Sand play sets come with various plastic toy models of construction equipment, many of which have sections that double as molds for the sand. These include molds for making brick walls as well as individual bricks. Make several bricks separately and then stack them into walls; alternatively construct whole walls at once using the brick wall mold. Once the brick construction is completed, demolish it using the toys.
Sidewalks and Roads
Some play sets include shallow molds for making geometrical tiles as well as bricks. The tiles fit together neatly and can be used to create paved areas. Different colors of sand can be molded into tiles, which can then be arranged so as to create mosaic patterns. The sand can also be packed and rolled flat to create a road.
Animals and Fish
Some play sets come with molds for animals and sea creatures. For example, the Sea Princess set includes molds for a dolphin, a fish and a sea horse.
Sand Castles
Moon Sand can be used to build sand castles just like regular sand. It may be hard to shape into a proper castle without the molds supplied by the manufacturer, however; and any indoor beach simulation must stop at sand, as water can impair Moon Sand's performance.
