How to Make a K'Nex Car

K'nex is a building system that allows you to use your creativity and imagination to design buildings and vehicles. Different construction sets come with different pieces, but almost always include enough pieces and connectors to build a car. Although some K'nex building sets come with wheels, for those that don't, the white circular connector pieces can be substituted for wheels. If you need ideas for building a basic K'nex car, use the examples of other models as a starting point and use your imagination to turn it into your own original creation. The more you practice making cars, the better you will get at coming up with your own designs.

  Select a long rod and attach one half-circle connector to each end. The rod doesn't have to be any specific length, but it will determine the length of your final project. Repeat this process to create the other side of the K'nex car.

  Insert a shorter rod into the opening of a connection point and push it down until you hear it click. The rod should be perpendicular to the connector piece after inserting it. Repeat this process to connect this same rod to the other side of the car. This will become the front of the car and the front axle.

  Make the back of the car by using the same process and same size rod you used to form the front and front axle.

  Position the sides of the K'nex car so there is approximately ½ inch between the sides and the ends of the axle rods. At this point, you should have a rectangle base for your K'nex car.

  Construct the top and sides of the car by joining pieces and connectors to the corners. Use whatever design you like.

  Slide a wheel onto one end of an axle rod and hold it in place with an end cap. Do the same for the other three axle rod ends.
