How to Convert LEGO 9V to RC

LEGO trains have been around since the 1960s, and have undergone numerous changes throughout the years. The 9-volt system was introduced in 1991, replacing the 12-volt system. The new system was unique because it allowed for power to be sent directly through the two metal rails. With RC motors, the trains no longer had to run on the metal tracks, but could be used on LEGO's plastic tracks as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the 9-volt motor from your LEGO model. Remove just enough to get the motor out.

    • 2

Assemble the LEGO RC motor. Unlike the 9-volt motor, the wheels must be attached to the RC motor.

    • 3

Put the RC motor into the same position the 9-volt motor was located. It will fit, since both are the same size.

    • 4

Replace the pieces around the new RC motor. The train will worth on both the old 9-volt tracks or the plastic RC tracks, both are the same width.

    • 5

Turn the train on with the infrared remote control.
