How to Make a LEGO Droideka

Droidekas are miniature LEGO figures created for the original "Star Wars" LEGO play sets. Unlike other minifigures, droidekas were built from many parts. Within the "Star Wars" theme, droidekas fulfilled the role of protecting the Trade Federation from the Jedi. They could deploy blaster shields and turn into spheres for fast, rolling movement across battlefields. Originally released in 2002, the LEGO re-released droideka in 2007 with a smoother design than the original and new red-brown pieces. Even without the droideka sets, you can make your own LEGO droideka from a few common pieces you probably already have at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect two hinges together with a third hinge piece so that all hinges face outward. Attach three droid arms to the hinge poles so that one arm attaches to the middle of each hinge to form the droidekas legs.

    • 2

Attach a 1x1 flat brick to the three hinge unit, next to the top hinge, so that its top is flat. Attach one upward-facing clipper piece on top of the 1x1 flat brick piece, forming the droidekas torso.

    • 3

Connect two hinge pieces together with a 2x2 flat plate. Clip this unit to the droidekas legs by snapping one of the hinge pieces into the upward-facing clipper plate. Attach two 1x1 clippers to the bottom of the droidekas torso. Connect one 3-way axle piece into each 1x1 clipper. Attach one droid arm to the protruding end of each 3-way axle. Place the two guns into these two droid arms.

    • 4

Attach three remaining droid arms onto a droid body piece so that all three arms are in a row on one side of the body. Attach a 1x1 hand brick to the droid body piece opposite the arms to form the droideka's head. Connect the two levers on either side of the hand brick to form the droidekas eyes. Use the arms to connect the droidekas head to its body.
