How to Store Legos

When the tiny Lego pieces begin multiplying in your children's rooms and you must restore order, look to a variety of different storage and container solutions. Depending on the age of your children and the type of Legos they own, you can create an efficient system for storing Lego pieces. Make sure that the system you choose is easy to use so your children can maintain the Lego organization as they play with the Legos.

Instructions

    • 1

Sort through your child's Legos to determine what kind of storage system your child needs.

    • 2

Keep the storage minimal and basic if your child is just starting to collect Legos. A lidded plastic bin is probably sufficient to store the Legos.

    • 3

Sort and separate different Lego sets together in larger bins if your child enjoys the Lego sets with many different specialized pieces.

    • 4

Choose medium-sized bins or plastic drawer sets to sort the Legos if your child enjoys using a variety of basic Legos to build his own creations. This will help your child find just the pieces he needs as he builds.

    • 5

Purchase the storage bins or drawer sets you decide will work for your child's Lego collection, and place the Legos into the storage containers. Separate sets and store them together in separate bins, or sort Legos by color or size and place all like-colored or similar-sized Legos together in separate bins or drawers. If your child has some specialized pieces that you want to keep track of, consider using quart or gallon zipper bags to store these pieces so your child can easily locate them.

    • 6

Place the storage bins or drawers near a worktable where your child can easily access the Legos while creating Lego designs. Place the bins on shelves above the table, or place the plastic drawer sets below the table.

    • 7

Collect all of the Lego instructions, especially if your child has Lego sets that require specific building sequences to make the designs.

    • 8

Place each separate instruction booklet into a plastic binder sleeve, and place the binder sleeves into a three-ring binder. This will enable your child to find the instruction booklets necessary to build different sets. Store the three-ring binder near the worktable and storage bins.
