How to Build a Lego Star Wars Mtt

In "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," there is a scene in which the Droid army appears in large, brown vehicles which deploy hundreds of soldiers in their compacted form. The soldiers then stand and turn as one. This is the Federation "MTT," Multi-Troop Transport. There is a Lego version of the vehicle that's part of the Lego "Star Wars" series, which is complex and large; the vehicle comes with seven Droid troops, one of whom is the vehicle driver.

Instructions

  1. Front of the Vehicle

    • 1

Attach a grey 2-stud vent to the middle of the 10-stud side of a 10-by-6-stud plate. Place a red 2-by-2 brick with a technic pin on either side of the vent. There should be two of them, with the pins pointing away.

    • 2

Place the grey 10-stud by 6-stud plate next to two brown 4-by-10 stud plates. The pins are on the back, the brown plates at the front. Attach them together with a brown 1-by-10-stud brick at the outer edges of the red bricks.

    • 3

Place a red 2-by-2 brick on the outside of one of the brown bricks, at the front end of the piece. Place two L-shaped plates next to it, with the vertical parts facing outward. Repeat on the other side.

    • 4

Place a tan 2-by-1-stud brick atop the red bricks along the outer edge of the model. There are four bricks in all. Place two black turbine-shaped pieces at the back of the model on the outsides, behind the L-plates.

    • 5

Place a white 2-by-10-stud brick across the model, so the ends meet the line between the L-plates. Place two more red 2-by-2 bricks at the front, behind the tan bricks.

    • 6

Place a brown 2-by-2-stud brick in each channel on the turbine bricks. Place a black 6-by-2-stud brick between the white crossbeam and the tan brick in front of it on both sides.

    • 7

Place tan 2-by-2 bricks on top of the tan bricks at the back. Place two more between the black bricks from the previous step, atop the red bricks.

    • 8

Place a 2-by-3-stud plate on the vertical end of an L-plate, and place that in the middle of the channel inside the model.

    • 9

Place four 2-by-2-stud angled towering bricks, which are 3-bricks tall, along the front. Attach two tan 2-by-6 plates on top of the turbines at the back. This makes the top of the model flat.

    • 10

Place two 2-by-12-stud plates on either side, and a 1-by-10-stud plate around the sides and back of the model. Attach a black 2-by-2 flat plate on the tops of the inner-most flat plates, and a 1-by-6-stud flat plate behind that.

    • 11

Place a 2-by-4 stud angles brick hanging off the sides of the model, at the front. Place two 1-by-2-stud angled bricks at the back, so they form a trapezoid shape over the turbines, with the end of one hanging off the side.

    • 12

Use three 1-by-4-stud bricks with channels along the sides to form a channel. The channel should face the center of the model. Repeat on the other side. This channel is how the multi-troop deployment piece will attach to the vehicle.

    • 13

Place two more 2-by-2 towering angled bricks on the tops of the angled brick, extending the curve. Repeat on the other side. Place a 1-by-2 towering angled brick atop the rear-most angled bricks as well.

    • 14

Attach two 1-by-2 stud angled bricks at the top-front of the model. Place two 1-by-8-stud bricks across the top of the model at the front, and a third at the back.

    • 15

Install a 10-by-6- plate which goes between the two crosspieces added previously. Attach a 1-by-6-stud brick in front of that. Place a 3-by-1-stud plate on top of the angled bricks at the front, and a black round single-stud at the back. Repeat on the other side.

    • 16

Put 2-by-2 double-angled bricks at the front corners of the top platform, and a 1-by-2-stud angled brick behind those. Place a 2-by-4-stud brown brick behind that.

    • 17

Place a red 2-by-2 brick behind the brown brick in the center of the platform, and a black seat-piece behind that. Place two 1-by-2-stud angled bricks at the back of the platform, and a tan 1-by-4-stud brick between them.

    • 18

Build the front door mechanism. Place a 1-by-2-stud brick on either end of a 2-by-6-stud plate. Place the door panel between them. Attach a grey, pointed 1-by-2-brick (three angles) in the center of the door panel, and two brown side-hung hinged pieces behind it, with the hinges in the center. Connect the hinge backs to the door, and hang it from the center of the model on the front. Place a control panel in front of the seat, behind the hinge.

    • 19

Put a brown 2-by-2 angled brick on top of the hinge, and a 1-by-2 window brick on top of that. Place the 1-by-2 thin tower (three bricks tall, but C-shaped) on the back of the model. Place a pilot droid in the seat.

    • 20

Place towering 2-by-2 double-angled bricks around the cockpit window. Place 1-by-2 stud towers on either side of the back tower. Cap both front and back points with back-to-back 1-by-2 angled bricks.

    • 21

Build the roof by placing two 1-by-8-stud plates side by side underneath a 2-by-10-stud plate, and spanning the gap between the two points.

    • 22

Attach four laser cannons with orange rounded single studs in the ends to the vertical plates at the bottom of the model. Place the semicircular shield-shaped pieces around the cannons.

    • 23

Build the walls out of two 4-by-10 plates. Attach grey hinge pieces at the bottom outer corners of the door, and a 1-by-6-stud brick between those hinge peces, set 1-stud into the bottom. Place 1-by-8-stud plates at the top and across the hinges at the bottom of the door. Flip the door over, attach the brown side-hinges to the ends and a grey L-shaped 1-by-2 piece to the tops of the doors at the center. Make two doors.

    • 24

Attach the doors on either side of the model, so they fit over the cockpit when folded up. Leave the doors down and keep them in place with two 2-by-6-stud bricks connecting the black channel-fronted bricks and the hinge bricks.

    Aft of the Vehicle

    • 25

Place two 6-by-10-stud plates next to each other, the 10-stud sides facing each other, and a 1-by-6-stud plate at the back corners of the two.

    • 26

Connect the two with a 2-by-8-stud plate. Put a grey 1-by-2-stud vent piece at the front of the green piece.

    • 27

Connect the 1-by-6-pieces to the sides of the base with 2-by-2-stud upward-angled bricks along the back. Place 1-by-2-stud up-angle bricks inside of those bricks. Place L-shaped plates between those facing upward.

    • 28

Place two 2-by-2 upward angled bricks at the front-right corner of the model, hanging off the side. Place a 2-by-4-stud brick and a 1-by-2-stud brick between the upward angled bricks on the front and back. Repeat on the other side.

    • 29

Place a green 2-by-8-stud plates along the front-right corner, covering all of the pieces on the lower angle. Place 3-by-3 curved plate across the back corner of the piece. Repeat on the other side.

    • 30

Build the back door using a hinged plate, with 4-by-8-stud plates on the back to create a 8-by-8-stud door. Place a 1-by-8 plate at the top of this piece. Attach this door to the back of the model, between the L-plates.

    • 31

Place another set of upward-angled bricks, a 2-by-2 and a 1-by-2- on the back of the model. Build up the sides with a 1-by-4 hinge, and a 1-by-8-stud brick. Place a tan 1-by-2 brick inside this piece. Repeat on the other side. Repeat with a second set of hinges and 1-by-8-stud bricks.

    • 32

Place a 2-by-2 double-angled towering brick at both back corners of the model, with a 1-by-2 towering brick inside by the door.

    • 33

Place 1-by-10-stud bricks atop the sides, and a 2-by-2 upward-angled brick on top of the tan brick pieces.

    • 34

Place a 2-by-8-stud angled brick on the front corner of the top of the model. Place a brown 2-by-2 angled brick at the back. Place a 1-by-2-stud tan brick behind the front corner. Cover the tops with a 1-by-2 plate and a 2-by-10 plate.

    • 35

Place a 1-by-2-stud angled brick on the front of the model, and a 2-by-2 double-angled brick, with a 2-by-2 angled brick at the back. Repeat on the other side.

    • 36

Build side-mounted cannons out of a hook, a grey-handled gun piece and a round orange single-stud. Place a black single-stud on the top, and mount it behind the first angled brick. Make two of these cannons, one for each side of the model.

    • 37

Put a 1-by-2 angled brick at the back of the model. Place black 1-by-10-stud plates across the model at the front and back. Build a ring of 1-by-8 stud plates around the black plates and over the side-cannons. Cover the cannons with the ridged brown doors and hinge pieces. There are two doors for each sides.

    • 38

Build the top of the model out of two 8-by-4-stud plates. Place 1-by-2 vent plates across the door pieces.

    • 39

Place a row of 1-by-2 upward angled bricks along the 10-stud side of a 6-by-10 plate. Place a tan 1-by-2 brick, and a red 1-by-2 brick with a hole in it on the front side of the piece, a red round single-stud brick on the side. Put a red 2-by-2 brick behind the middle-most upward angled brick, and a red single-stud brick behind the last. Put a 2-by-1 brick at the back corner.

    • 40

Place a 1-by-10-stud plate at the front, and a 2-by-10-stud plate across the row of up-angled bricks. Attach a 2-by-4 angled brick at the left corner of the model, a 1-by-4-stud brick and a 1-by-6-stud brick next to that, behind the angled brick. Put a second angled brick atop the first, continuing the angle, and two 1-by-2 pieces in an L-shape along the back.

    • 41

Stack two 1-by-10 bricks on top of each other, and slide them along the side of the angled bricks. Put two 1-by-2 handle plates on the right side, pointing inward. Cover the gap on the front with a 1-by-2 vent.

    • 42

Attach this side scoop to the hinge on the model. Make a second side scoop for the other side following the same directions but mirrored. Cover the hinges on both sides with a 2-by-4 angled brick.

    • 43

Build two control panels with a 2-by-2 control panel brick, and a stack of two 1-by-2-tan bricks. Place a handle plate atop that, and attach them to the red bricks in the center of the side scoops. Place a 2-by-2 angle brick on top of this piece to connect it to the back.

    • 44

Place 1-by-2-stud bricks with hooks on the side on either side of the control panel, on top of the wall. Build out the wall with a 1-by-2 brick at the front and a 1-by-1 brick with a side-stud next to that. Cover the top of the hinge with a 1-by-3 angled brick. Place a 1-by-10 brick on top of these pieces. Repeat on the other side.

    • 45

Place a 1-by-2 tall brick, 4-bricks height, on top of each of the two handle-plates. Join these to the walls with a 1-by-4 brick at either side. Place a 1-by-4 brick in the center of the wall. Put an upward angled brick on either side of the piece. Place 1-by-10 bricks on the right edge of the side piece. Repeat on the other side. Put a 1-by-10 on the top of these side pieces, both sides.

    • 46

Put a 2-by-2 towering brick on the front-center of a 4-by-10 plate. Put a 1-by-4-stud brick on the back side of this piece. Put a 1-by-2 stud brick in the elbow of this piece. Put a 2-by-2 angled brick at the back of this piece. Put a 2-by-1 piece at the back of the tower, and along the side, with a second 2-by-2 angled brick continuing the angle of the first.

    • 47

Place a third brick on top of that, and a 2-by-1 brick on the back. Build up the angle with another angled brick and a 2-by-1. Install this on top of the side pieces. Build a second angled piece like this, in reverse and place it on the other wall.

    • 48

Bring the two halves of the machine together and attach the halves of the vehicle with the red pins from the front half.

    Troop Deployment Unit

    • 49

Place two green slider plates on the sides of a 1-by-8 plate. Place a 2-by-10 piece in the center of this, creating a T-shape.

    • 50

Place 3-by-3 curved plates along the back of the unit, covering the green sliders. Place a 1-by-2-stud plate at the bottom of the bottom of the T.

    • 51

Put a 1-by-2 brick and a 2-by-2 angled brick on the back of the device, across the gap between the curved plates. Placea 1-by-2 plate on the tip of the T. Put a handled plate on top of this, handle pointing away from the unit.

    • 52

Build 6 blasters out of megaphone-shaped pieces and orange single-stud pieces. Place these in two rows along the sides of the angled brick.

    • 53

Place two single-stud bricks with side-studs on either end of a lance piece. Place this along the long piece of the T. Make a second unit and attach it parallel to the first.

    • 54

Place a 1-by-2 brick at the back of the first. Place a 2-by-2 flat plate at the top.

    • 55

Attach six soldiers to the lances. First assemble the soldiers, and fold them up, then clip their hands to the lance, so the feet dangle down. Place three on each lance.

    • 56

Open the front door, and slide the slider into the tank. Close the door.

    • 57

Flip the model over and attach the 14 round, curved bottom feet pieces to the model so they evenly distribute the weight of the model.
