How to Wash LEGOs

LEGOs can be passed down by siblings, cousins and neighbors over years and passed among them in seconds. Unfortunately, because the little toy bricks are so popular, they can also pick up thousands of germs as they move from one child's hand to another. This is especially true if children play with LEGOs in doctor's offices or in a day care center. Fortunately, LEGOs are easy to clean with mild detergent and warm water.

Things You'll Need

  • Safe, mild detergent
  • Clean bucket

Instructions

    • 1

Squirt a drop of mild detergent into the bottom of the bucket large enough to hold all of the LEGOs you intend to clean.

    • 2

Fill the bucket halfway with warm water. The official LEGOs website recommends water no hotter than 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3

Pour all of your LEGOs except the ones with batteries or mechanical parts into the soapy water.

    • 4

Wash each LEGO by hand with a washcloth. After each brick is scrubbed, rinse it with clean water to remove any remaining soap.

    • 5

Lay the bricks aside on a clean paper towel. Allow them to air dry. Drying time may vary based on the humidity level in your house.

    • 6

Use an alcohol pad to clean the LEGOs with batteries or mechanical parts.
