Building Instructions for BIONICLEs

The original BIONICLE series of LEGO sets were six action figures you could build, each aligned with a different element. The Toa, guardians of Mata Nui, were Gali, Onua, Lewa, Pohatu, Kopaka and Tahu. The instructions for building each character were very similar, but each had different weapons and special skills to match their home terrain and element. Together, the six Bionicle Toa can save the world, but first the team needs to be assembled, literally.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach an endcap to the center of the torso piece. Place a small gear in the back of the torso, and a second gear in the left or right side, depending on which arm you want the character to have powered. For Gali and Onua, place a gear in either side because both of their arms are powered. Mesh the gears so they turn.

    • 2

Slide a thick stopper on the end of a six-stud long rod, and slide that through the endcap and out the back of the torso. Attach a large gear and second stopper to the back of this rod. Turn the large gear to rotate the smaller gears.

    • 3

Slide a three-stud rod into the side gear or gears. If you only have one gear, clip a gray connector into the other shoulder. If you are building Pohatu, turn the torso upside down.

    • 4

Attach the transparent eye piece to the back of the face piece. Attach this to the top of the torso using a three-stud rod. If you're building Onua, attach it to the front of his torso.

    • 5

Slide a five-stud rod through the narrow part of the torso.

    • 6

Attach two ball joint sockets to either shoulder and hip point. There should be four in all, one or two of which are powered. If you are building Pohatu, widen his shoulders with a two-stud rod and a loose ball on either side.

    • 7

Build the legs using two foot-shaped pieces and two 30-degree leg pieces. Click those into place at the hips. Pohatu's feet also require the spade-shaped power pieces inside and attached with a two-stud rod, because his feet are his power.

    • 8

Build the arms out of the two 45-degree arm joints and two ball joint socket pieces. Attach the weapons or hands to the ends of these pieces.

    • 9

Clip the Toa's mask on the front of the face.
