Instructions for LEGO Belville Royal Crystal Palace

LEGO introduced the Belville sets in 1994. The figures in Belville are larger than the traditional LEGO minifigures and so the Belville sets are appropriately larger. Set 5850-1: The Royal Crystal Palace, is winter themed and includes pieces for the characters to participate in winter sports such as skiing and ice skating, and a polar bear figure for the characters to play with. The characters included in the set are King Belville, Prince Belville and Princess Vanilla. Pictorial directions should come with the Belville set and are also available from the LEGO website.

Instructions

    • 1

Take out the large base piece, the play surface. Place three white alcoves: two on the top-most tier, separated by the blue, icy window. The third white alcove goes to the right of the top two, on the tier above and behind the depression. This space on the right will become the bedroom.

    • 2

Build the chest of drawers: find the two small arch pieces with only three pegs on top. Place these pieces next to each other so that you can look through both arches at once. Find the purple boxes, pegs 2x3. Stack the boxes on top of each other then on top of the two arch pieces. Place the two white drawers into the top purple drawer piece. Find the crystal pitcher and put the purple crystal stopper in the top. Place pitcher on top of chest of drawers. Assemble the purple treasure chest by fitting the lid piece on top of the base piece. Place the treasure chest in the top left alcove. Place the chest of drawers in the top right alcove.

    • 3

Find the two large, flat, yellow/orange quarters of a circle. Fit them together so they make a half circle. Find the white six-peg archways and place them parallel to the line where you placed the two yellow pieces together and so that there are six pegs between the arches: three on one yellow piece, three on the other. Find the white eight-peg arch pieces and connect them to the six-peg arches: parallel to each other and perpendicular to the six-peg pieces. Place the large purple, flat 12x6 peg sheet on top of the connected arch pieces to form a table.

    • 4

Form the chairs by finding the white arch pieces with four top pegs. Find the purple flat sheets with only four pegs along one edge. Place the purple piece on top of two of the white arches as if the four purple pegs were the back of the chair. Then to form the back of the chair, place the white 1x4 brick on the four purple pegs and top the 1x4 piece with the white, curved chair top piece. Place the chairs at the heads of the table on the yellow floor piece.

    • 5

Place the yellow floor piece with table and chairs in front of the two white alcoves on the top tier. Place another white alcove on top of the right hand (top tier) alcove this time curved the opposite way.

    • 6

Form the crystal protective case by finding the blue cylindrical piece. It looks roughly like the equivalent of a LEGO cake platter. The top has four open pegs. The red crystal fits between these four pegs. Fit the protective globe over the whole top, encasing the four pegs. Place this on top of the left, top tier alcove.

    • 7

Assemble the candlestick for the dinning table, find the small, white cone-shaped piece called a nose cone. Place the small white disk on top. Place the white four-pronged candle piece through the white disk. Place the yellow, transparent nose cones on the four prongs as flames. Place assembled candle stick on table.

    • 8

Find the purple, sparkly alcove toppers; there should be 3 of them. Place the white, large 2x2 nose cones on the two side shelves on the outside of the alcove topper. Find the small, blue crystals and put one on the top of each 2x2 nose cone. For the top of the alcove topper, there should be small, white flat pieces with only one peg in the middle (though it would have room for two). A small white nose cone goes on this center peg and the large snowflake shape fits into the top of the nose cone. Place the white rectangle on top of the purple, sparkly alcove topper. The alcove toppers face the same direction as their lower pieces. So the purple sparkly alcove topper on the far left alcove fits around the crystal protector already on the top of the alcove. The alcove topper for the far right alcove faces the same way. The alcove topper for the double tall alcove faces towards the play surface.

    • 9

Make the bedroom by forming another chair just like you did for the dining room, but the seat will be blue instead of purple. Make the feet of the bed with two arch pieces, each 1x6. The purple and blue mattress pieces only have pegs on three sides of the flat piece. Place the purple mattress piece on the feet pieces so that the feet pieces are attached to the bottom of the extreme ends of the mattress piece. Above the feet pieces, place the white frames that look like window frames. These will support the upper mattress (blue) to make bunk beds. The headboard piece is white and has three small arches in it. It locks in at the head of the top mattress. Place two white nose cones on the extreme ends of the headboard and place purple crystals into the tops of the nose cones.

    • 10

Place another yellow floor piece over the depression on the right side of the play surface in front of the alcove placed there. This is the bedroom. Arrange the bunk beds and the blue chair in this space as desired.

    • 11

Make the gazebo with two more frame pieces like the ones used to form the second level of the bunk beds. Place their arms facing each other and connect them with two mint green 1x6 flat pieces underneath. Place the blue, crystal square roof on top of the now square frame gazebo. Place a white nose cone on top of the roof and place a purple crystal inside the white nose cone. Place the gazebo just behind the blue crystal floor piece that should be on the left side of the place surface.

    • 12

Make the lamp post with the tall, green lamp post piece. Place a curved dish piece (the interior facing downward) on top of the lamp post. On top of that insert one of the candlestick pieces like those used on the dinner table. Place yellow nose cones onto the four rods to make candles. Place the finished lamp post in front of the gazebo.

    • 13

Place other pieces, including mini figures, animals and flowers, as desired around the play surface. see Resources for other assembly ideas.
