How do I Plan and Build a Child Size Kitchen Sink & Stove Unit?

A pint-sized kitchen can be created in no time with some sturdy cardboard boxes. This economical and lightweight version of the real thing can be moved from room to room with ease and requires no special tools to make. Helping with the planning and building of the unit will inspire creativity in a young child. A few kitchen remodeling magazines could deliver some high-styled kitchen plans, or the unit could be modeled after the family sink and stove.

Instructions

    • 1

Look through kitchen remodeling magazines for sink and stove design ideas.

    • 2

Plan the size and dimensions of the sink and stove unit on the graph paper, using the cardboard box sizes as a guide. Decide on the colors of the sink and stove units.

    • 3

Reinforce all seams and edges of the boxes with the masking tape for strength. Tape the boxes closed.

    • 4

Place one upside-down plastic bowl on the top of one box. Trace around the bowl with the pencil. Cut the circle out with the scissors.

    • 5

Attach the plastic bowl to the circular opening with masking tape for the sink.

    • 6

Roll the clay into a 1-inch diameter snake. Cut it to a length of 4 inches. Bend slightly halfway to recreate a faucet. Make two golf ball-sized pieces of clay. Flatten them slightly to make hot and cold knobs. Let the clay dry thoroughly and attach all pieces to the sink with the masking tape.

    • 7

Paint the sink and stove unit the appropriate color with the poster paint and paintbrush.

    • 8

Paint cabinet doors on the lower front portion of the sink unit.

    • 9

Paint a large oven door on the lower front portion of the stove unit. Let all paint dry thoroughly.

    • 10

Trace the second upside-down plastic bowl on the black construction paper. Cut out the circles and glue them to the top of the stove unit for burners.
