How to Build Cardboard Chairs

Cardboard is the perfect building material for dollhouse chairs. The cardboard from small gift boxes is especially easy to cut with scissors and you can easily attach the pieces with glue or masking tape. Be creative and upholster the cardboard chairs with cotton batting and fabric remnants. Looking through decorating magazines can help a young, aspiring interior designer determine the very best chair styles for that important family of dolls who live in the dollhouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bottom of a small gift box face down on a table to use as a chair base and seat.

    • 2

Cut all sides off the gift box top.

    • 3

Use the large section of the gift box top for the chair back and attach it to the base using masking tape.

    • 4

Use two side sections of the gift top box for the arms, taping them to the back and the base.

    • 5

Glue cotton batting to the seat, arms and back of the chair.

    • 6

Measure fabric sections to fit the chair seat, back and arms and attach them with glue.

    • 7

Create a pleated skirt for the chair with a long strip of fabric. Fold the fabric in accordion pleats, iron and glue to the bottom of the chair base.

    • 8

Glue decorative trim or ribbon to the top edge of the pleated skirt and the chair arms.
