LEGO Trains Instructions

Lego is a building supply known for its elegant simplicity, and its ability to be molded into just about any shape imaginable. However, adding something like a motor to the system gives it a whole new life. For example, instead of a simple toy train, you can have a model train that moves and runs, but can be made to look however you want it to. To get one of these off the ground, however, you may need to purchase a premade train set.

Things You'll Need

  • Lego train tracks
  • Lego train set

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the track for the train set. You can start with a basic oval, or you can make a more interesting shape with it, provided all of the track lies flat and isn't kinked or twisted. This is important, as there is an electric current that must be completed for the train to function.

    • 2

Assemble the train base. Open the battery compartment. Consult the directions that came with the train set for how to open it, or look for a hinge or a catch that holds the battery compartment closed. If your set comes with a speed regulator, attach that to the tracks at the contact points. You may need to consult the directions for specific information on this.

    • 3

Insert batteries into the battery compartment and close the device back up.

    • 4

Attach the motor to the train. It needs to connect to a power strip, which will be made of metal.

    • 5

Test the motor by turning it on. There should be a power button or on switch somewhere on the train motor, but some models use a regulator panel that's separate and connected to the tracks by wires.

    • 6

Place the train base on the track and start building the train. Attach a row of bricks to the train base in the shape of the train you want to build. You can use any design that you'd like, and you can find some suggestions under Resources.

    • 7

Build a second row on top of that one. Offset the bricks on this row so that the gaps on the first row are covered by the bricks on the second. Repeat until you have finished making the train engine.

    • 8

Build some train cars. Take a train car base and repeat the process of building rows on top of rows to make more train cars. Make as many cars as you'd like to.
