How to Build a Toy Garage

Your children will enjoy building their very own toy garage for their toy cars and trucks. The structure can be designed with plenty of child input and will encourage creativity and problem solving abilities. Recycled materials are used for this project, which is perfect for a youngster who loves playing with toy cars and trucks. Building a toy garage can be a rainy-day project for one or a group of children, with a little adult help.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the milk jug spout side up on a table. Cut a 4 1/2-inch wide and 3-inch high door opening in one of the milk jug's flat sides with the utility knife. Attach the door to the top of the inside door opening with masking tape. After opening the garage door by pushing the door in, attach it open with another piece of masking tape.

    • 2

Cut the top off the milk jug. Draw shingles on a piece of brown construction paper, fold it in half lengthwise and place it on the top of the jug for a roof.

    • 3

Draw or cut out windows above the garage doorway. Draw a sign on the garage with the markers.

    • 4

Poke a hole in the side of the milk jug and attach a piece of string, by tying knots at each end, for an air hose. Use marker to write "air hose" on the side of the jug.

    • 5

Place thread spools in the garage for car lifts.

    • 6

Make gas pumps from the modeling clay. Create service men from the modeling clay. Bake the polymer clay to harden.
