How to Make House Furniture Out of Cardboard

Furnish an entire dollhouse with recycled cardboard that has been turned into furniture. Cereal boxes, frozen food containers, paper cups and cardboard poster board can be turned into a sophisticated furnished living room. Boxes are transformed into a bedroom suite worthy of a fashion doll. With the help of construction paper and magic markers, juice boxes become a kitchen refrigerator and stove. Encourage children to examine the rooms in their own homes to get ideas for more cardboard furniture.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover cereal boxes and frozen food containers by gluing on coordinated colored construction paper for sofas. The cereal box will lay flat for the base of a sofa, and the frozen food container will sit upright on the box for the back of the sofa. Cut out small squares of poster board, and decorate them with the markers for throw pillows.

Cut a large square from the poster board and decorate it with diagonal marker stripes for a rug. Cut off the top 2 inches of the paper cup to be used as a base for a coffee table. Cut a larger circle from the poster board, cover it with brown construction paper and glue it to the base for the coffee table top.

Make a bed for a fashion doll with a Velveeta cheese box. Make a headboard from the poster board, cover it with black construction paper and glue it to the box. Glue cotton batting to the top of the box, and cover the box with a velvet fabric scrap. Make pillows for the bed by gluing smaller fabric scraps together with cotton batting between to make them puffy. Cover a cereal box with construction paper and draw on drawers and drawer handles with markers. Use as a bedroom rug.

Cover juice boxes with gray construction paper for a stove and refrigerator. Turn one juice box on its side for the stove, and add four black circles to the top for burners. Draw the oven door on the front. Draw a refrigerator and freezer doors on the tall side of the covered juice box. Make a kitchen table from a paper cup and a square of poster board covered with brown construction paper. Make a chair from two strips of 5-inch-long poster board by bending one 2-inch-wide strip in two places and gluing it to the other strip for the chair back.
