LEGO Ship Instructions

LEGO bricks are an extremely versatile building toy that allows people to build just about anything, including ships. People have built incredibly huge boats or small, highly detailed boats. They've built everything from ultra-modern cruise liners to a traditional pirate ship. The same basic principles apply regardless of the size of the project. The flexibility of the LEGO building system allows you to make changes even to "completed" models.

Instructions

    • 1

Build a base layer out of large brick pieces. For more stability, build it on top of a blue base plate, or on top of some blue plate pieces, or plate pieces of the same color. The size of the base plate should be a little narrower and shorter than the final size of the ship.

    • 2

Build a second layer on top of the base. Expand the front and sides of the ship by a studs' width. Leave the aft (rear) of the ship flat.

    • 3

Repeat the layering process for a third layer. Decide whether the hull will be hollow or solid, and build accordingly. A hollow hull could be used to store props, but a solid hull will make the ship sturdier.

    • 4

Add another layer with the same dimensions as the layer below it. Repeat until the hull of the ship is as tall as you want it to be. Offset the bricks of this layer against the layer below it, so a brick crosses the gap below it.

    • 5

Install the main railing. Use one-stud wide pieces around the perimeter of the hull. Make a second layer of this railing.

    • 6

Lay wide, flat plates across the hull. This will serve as the main deck of the ship.

    • 7

Build a main cabin on the top of the deck. On most ships, this is toward the back of the boat.

    • 8

Attach any other features you want to add to the ship. For example, some ships have masts or cranes for lifting cargo.
