Instructions
Understand the anatomy of a LEGO block. The protruding, circular shapes on the top of LEGO blocks are called "studs," the sides of the block are called "walls" and the hollow cylinders on the bottom are called "tubes."
Place one LEGO block on top of another. Ensure that both are facing the same direction and squeeze the blocks from the top and bottom. This action connects the two blocks together because the studs from the lower brick fit between the tubes and walls of the upper brick.
Learn LEGO brick lingo. LEGO bricks are referred to by the number of studs on the top of the brick. For instance, a "2 x 4 brick" features two rows of four studs. A "1 x 8 brick" features one row of eight studs. Plates are similar to bricks, but are only one-third as thick, meaning a stack of three 2 x 4 plates will look identical to one 2 x 4 brick. Other special LEGO pieces include roof tiles, half-studs and base plates.
Familiarize yourself with unique LEGO accessories. Perhaps the most popular LEGO accessory is the LEGO minifig, the LEGO equivalent of people. These small figures can attach to studs with their feet, hold weapons or tools, and wear costumes, hats and capes.
Experiment. Try new ideas. Create whatever comes to mind. LEGO bricks are so popular because your imagination is your only limitation. Some LEGO connoisseurs create thriving cities, while others create replicas of famous airplanes, automobiles and spaceships. Start simple, and there's no telling what you'll be creating in time.
Other unique LEGO accessories include wheel assemblies, furniture, gear mechanisms, door panels, flowers and trees.
