Things You'll Need
Instructions
Assemble a variety of cardboard boxes, tubes and cartons of similar size that are clean and empty.
Choose a single square or rectangle box to be the center of the castle, also known as the keep, and seal it completely with masking tape.
Arrange the remaining cardboard containers on and around the sealed box to simulate turrets and towers. Secure the containers to the keep with masking tape.
Mark the outline for a drawbridge by drawing a half-oval rising up from the base on the front center of the keep box. Add outlines for windows, back doors and any other desired cutout features onto the cardboard containers at this time.
Follow the guidelines you drew to cut the drawbridge; leave the base of the piece intact so that it can be opened and closed. Cut out any other features that you outlined with the marker.
Cover any seams and sharp edges on the cardboard with masking tape.
Invite kids to help you paint the outside and any visible inside areas of the castle with acrylic paints. Ask kids for their ideas on colors and new custom features to add.
Present the finished castle to the kids after the acrylic paint has dried for at least 30 minutes.
